Radiation Protection

Station management pays special attention to the radiological protection of workers on-site by constantly monitoring the effects of radiation on individuals (ie. dose). At the turn of the 21st century, typical top-quartile world performance in collective dosage of a nuclear power station similar to Daya Bay is within 560 man.mSv in a year, and typical median performance is within 1100 man.mSv per year.

It should be noted that all of us are exposed to radiation all the time, with a typical individual dose in Hong Kong of over 3 mSv per year, most of which is from natural radiation sources.

Station management is committed to:

   observe the statutory dose limits for individuals as stated in China's national regulations and

   keep the collective dose as low as reasonably achievable

It refers to the highest daily dosage of radiation record of an individual worker during the period. The amount of daily dosage received by other workers or this particular worker on any other days was less than this figure.

The total amount of radiation received (or absorbed) by the workers employed by the power station and contractors on site for the month.
