Inside a Nuclear Island - The Fuel Storage Pool

The fuel storage pool stores spent nuclear fuel assemblies under water and is large enough to hold the spent nuclear fuel produced at Daya Bay for at least 10 years. The pool is also used to store any fuel assemblies that are temporarily unloaded from the reactor pressure vessel during refueling, as well as new fuel assemblies delivered to the power station. It has about half the capacity of an Olympic size swimming pool though it is much deeper.
