Inside a Nuclear Island - The Pressurizer

To control the pressure within the primary circuit, a vessel known as the pressuriser is connected to one of the coolant loops. Water inside the pressuriser is heated to 345º C to produce a bubble of steam. The steam bubble is used to maintain the pressure in the sealed primary system at 155 bar.

The pressuriser is about 13 metres tall and weighs 80 tonnes.
